Who decides what is in and what is out?

I have always wondered where trends come from and how style evolves. Only to find out on this venture that trend forecasting is a real thing. Fashion experts and connoisseurs work hard to put together data from the past season to carefully predict what will be popular in this fashion season, starting from colour, texture, patterns to footwear in hopes of striking a chord with consumer demand.

Social media influencers, culture, movies, music, fashion houses and many more factors come into play when we are talking about influencing trends. The most important thing when it comes to staying abreast of trends is doing your research. It's good to know the kind of innovation that is trying to reach an audience or clique based on their lifestyle and demographic.

1. That bag your mom had in her 20s

Designer houses designed “Baguette” bags, and they are more in style than ever. You know, the one, oddly half-circle shaped and with a short strap. These are perfect for carrying anything you might need. If you really want to take it back to the 90s, go for leather patterns.

2. Embrace your spirit animal

Animal prints are showing up on everything from sweaters to shoes. Be sure to keep the rest of your outfit simple while only wearing one animal print at a time. If you are too nervous to try it as an outfit, try it on an accessory first.

3. Patchwork clothes

Patchwork involves different kinds of patterned fabric in the same ensemble. This truly gives the designer freedom to create a unique piece while creating a statement. These require minimal effort to dress up.

4. Cropped staple

Spring is here for another glorious turn, so we don't have to bury ourselves in chunky wear. Crop tops are definitely in season, so you should invest in one or two.

5. Pastel sweatpants

Grey sweatpants were the trend that was here to stay. People were so committed to comfort that it elicited a need to wear more fun pieces. Comfort wear is not just for your home this year. Pair your candy-coloured joggers with some stylish trainers and a tight top to create a silhouette.

6. Bucket hats

Essentially a part of streetwear and rap culture, the bucket hat finds itself more popular within this generation because it provides a chill and relaxed aura to whatever you wear.

7. Hoodie under blazers

God knows we have had too many transitions in the past year. Don't abandon your quarantine self and stick that hoodie under your blazer or jacket. If being comfortable with what you wear is the key, then this is the outfit to look out for.

8. Ankle boots

Ankle boots may be the biggest trend in footwear this season. Whether you are usually a heel person or a knee-high boots gal, the best ankle boots can adapt to your outfit effortlessly.
